BOUNENKAI / FAREWELL PARTY

This is just a brief report of our BONENKAI (year-end party/forget-the-year party) held yesterday.

The party was attended by around 30 people concerned including professors and students of multinational.So, it was such a great party indeed to forget everything for this year 2009!!The party was also intended to farewell our young fellows who are soon leaving for Zambia.We wish a safe journey and all the success in Zambia!!

By the way, have you really forgotten everything of this year after joining the party ??

My answer is unfortunately NO!!

I need carry over a thesis writing into the coming new year so my real BONENKAI comes a short time later, probably in either Feb. or Mar....

Happy life in Japan－two memorable experience－

As a member of the association of Chinese students in the Hiroshima University, I participated in a fortunate event which is known as ‘大学祭’ in our university.
I was so excited for this personal experience because I have only seen them in the Japanese TV serial in China before.
Not only am I a visitor but also I am a participant .Yes, I sold Chinese dumpling (with meat and vegetable stuffing) on that day. We Chinese students gathered together to make dumpling wrapper and to fill for dumplings by ourselves. Beyond expectations, we overfulfilled the sales target with its good taste.
In the meantime, the Japanese food broadened my outlook also. A sea of people who came from different countries went shopping and enjoyed performance……So bustling.
On November 14th, we Chinese students went on a tour of ‘宫島’in Japan .This scenic resort was full of Japanese culture such as varied and graceful Maple leaves, local flavour snacks, and many deer were being bred there. To my surprise, the deer could eat face tissues without the least hesitation. On the other hand, Japanese service is indeed known to all over the world, which is worth respecting.

Through Internship インターンを終えて

　I, MaSA, finished my internship in Malawi for 2 months,

and came back to Saijo-city where it is hyper cold...

　The greatest point which I learned through the internship is Japanese type of International Cooperation, especially the practical work of SMASSE International Cooperation in Education, with Love and partnership, sweat and tears.

　I recognized that the Capacity Development in Japanese type is in the stage based on sincere human relationship to focus on human, and the stage for improvement through discussions, consensus and cooperation to make better product together. In order to try to reach there, it is necessary to believe other’s potential, never give up facing each other with strong spirit, and even if the progress is tiny, to promote other’s capacity through imparting skills and ideas.

The work field where I was is such a place and where they expand a great deal of effort down-to-earth without end everyday.

　The one of the keys of Japanese type of International Cooperation is Self-sustainability. Without developing the capacity of the indigenous people, it could not be accomplished, and it would be impossible to reach there in a few days.

　One JICA expert said, “We will work for African Education for 20 years”, showing their strong spirit and belief. I hereby found the future roll model which I should envisage.

　Some said, “There is nothing better than experience by yourself when you want to learn something.” The internship is definitely so. SMASSE project is focusing on the field site, so I learned a lot through experiencing the field site in Expert’s shoes, which is nice and great for my improvement.

　Starting in Rwanda to hold one chalk in front of the Rwandan students 3 years ago, I came here now. However this is still beginning. I will continue challenging forward the world where I can feel myself. Thanks, and Zikomo.

松山です。2ヶ月間のマラウイでのインターンを終え、

遂に極寒の西条に戻って参りました。

インターンで学んだ大きな点は、日本の国際協力、特にSMASSEプロジェクトの教育協力の、現場での実践、その愛と友情、汗と涙でした。

日本型国際協力におけるCapacity Developmentは、人と人の繋がりに重きを置いた、真剣な人間関係の構築を基盤とした、切磋琢磨の場でした。そのためには、相手の可能性を信じ、粘り強く向き合い続ける、そして、少しずつであっても、技術や思考を刷り込んで、相手の成長を促していく。

そのような果てしない地道な努力が、日々脈々と続けられている、そんな現場でした。

日本型国際協力は、持続性と自立発展性がキーです。そこにいる人々の能力が開発されなければ、そのような目標に至ることはできないし、それは一日両日に叶うものでもありません。「20年は･･･」と言った専門家の言葉が身に染みます。そのように、決意と覚悟を据えた専門家達が、アフリカの教育のために生きています。私はここで、自分が目指す具体像を獲得した気がします。

「自分で体験する以上に、良い学びの方法はない」という言葉がありますが、インターンはまさにそれです。SMASSEプロジェクトのような現場型の業務で、現場密着で体験を通して学んだことは、非常に大きいです。

ルワンダの教室でチョークを持ったところからスタートして、やっとここまで来た気がします。それでもまだまだ初歩です。遣り甲斐を感じる場所へ向かって、永遠に挑戦を続けて行きたいと思います。
